Meet our newest
E. Fayette Street homeowner!
On Saturday January 16, Paris Turner
received the keys to
her new Habitat home at
2408 E. Fayette Street in Baltimore.
Paris is a terrific example of how courage and perseverance can change lives. After 24 years of struggle with drug addiction and incarceration she made the decision to leave her destructive lifestyle. Her life changed when she left jail for the last time in 2007 and went to Marian House, a transitional supportive housing program for homeless women located in Baltimore City. After 10 months she was able to move on to the Women’s Housing Coalition (WHC), a residential program where women are given the tools to forge a positive life for themselves. Through the Women’s Housing Coalition’s supportive services, Paris was able to continue her journey towards independence. She got a job at Mercy Hospital and has been there for 18 months.
Audrey Fisher, close friend and
now neighbor, gives Paris the
key to her new home.
After 13 years Paris has been reunited with her son, Malachi, 17, who will be living with her in her new home. Now she has a car, a job and a home with her son in a wonderful community.
This is a dream that she never believed would come true. She believes that everyone has a chance to better their lives and own their own home. About her experiences over these last couple of years and how she overcame her addictions and destructive lifestyle she says her favorite quote is "If it is to be, Then It's Up To Me!"

Habitat of the Chesapeake partners with
The Women's Housing Coalition
Mike Mitchell, CEO of Habitat of the Chesapeake, signs the Memorandum of Understanding
cementing the partnership between Habitat and The Women's Housing Coalition
with Joann Levy, ED of WHO. and homeowner Paris Turner and son, Malachi.
On January 16 Habitat of the Chesapeake entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with The Women's Housing Coalition. The memorandum was signed at the Dedication Ceremony for new Habitat homeowner Paris Turner on E. Fayette Street. This partnership will provide low income women and children with clear pathways out of homelessness and into safe, permanent housing. Paris is a terrific example of how the partnership between Habitat and the Women's Housing Coalition can work. For 24 years Paris struggled with drug addiction and was incarcerated several times. In 2007 she went to Marian House, a transitional and supportive housing program for women in Baltimore. From there she was able to go into to the Women's Housing Coalition residential program where she learned life skills enabling her to get a
permanent job, a car, and now become a homeowner.

On July 1, 2009, Arundel Habitat for Humanity and
Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity merged to become Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake.
The new organization will continue to work to build decent, affordable housing in Baltimore County, Baltimore City, and Anne Arundel County. This merge will make it possible for us to serve more families each year. We look forward to continuing the hard work and fellowship that has helped more than 260 families to become homeowners.
Our Mission
Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake is a non-profit Christian ministry that works with people from all faiths and walks of life to build and renovate decent houses for affordable homeownership throughout Anne Arundel County and the Baltimore metropolitan region.
